Pupil Premium
Supporting Disadvantaged Pupils and Pupil Premium
At Wyburns Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. We recognise that some pupils may face additional barriers to learning, and we work tirelessly to remove these so that every child can achieve their full potential.
Our aim is that all pupils, irrespective of background, leave Wyburns equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed in the next stage of their education and beyond.
This commitment reflects our Trust’s shared vision:
Preparing learners for the world that awaits.
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to help schools support disadvantaged pupils. It is designed to help close the attainment gap between pupils who are eligible for free school meals (or have been in the past six years), children in care, and children of service families, and their peers.
How We Use Pupil Premium
We use our funding strategically to provide targeted support that promotes both academic progress and personal wellbeing. Our approach focuses on three key areas:
1. High-Quality Teaching
Our top priority is ensuring that every pupil benefits from excellent teaching every day. We invest in ongoing professional development to ensure our teaching is adaptive, inclusive and meets the diverse needs of all learners.
2. Targeted Academic Support
We provide additional, carefully structured small group and 1:1 interventions in key areas such as reading, writing and mathematics. These are delivered by teachers and skilled support staff to help close learning gaps and build pupil confidence.
3. Wider Strategies
We recognise that learning extends beyond the classroom. Our Pupil Premium funding also supports broader development and wellbeing through:
-
Enrichment opportunities such as educational trips, clubs and experiences
-
Mentoring and pastoral support
-
Initiatives that ensure every child can fully participate in all aspects of school life
Impact and Outcomes
We rigorously monitor the progress, attainment and wellbeing of disadvantaged pupils throughout the year. Our approach is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains effective and evidence-informed.
Each year, we publish a Pupil Premium Strategy Statement, outlining:
-
How our funding is allocated
-
The rationale for our chosen strategies
-
The measurable impact on pupils’ outcomes
Through this, we remain accountable and transparent in our mission to ensure that every child at Wyburns Primary School can flourish and succeed.
