Oak Class (Year 6)

W/C 24th November 2025

This week, Year 6 have been buzzing with excitement as they prepare to perform at the Rayleigh Lights Switch-On Event. The children have been practising their songs with great enthusiasm and their hard work is shining through.

In addition to this, the children have continued to enjoy their weekly swimming sessions, showing growing confidence and skill in the water.

In English this week, the children have been captivated by our work on The Highwayman. They have been eagerly crafting their own pieces of creative writing inspired by the poem, using vivid description and powerful imagery to bring their ideas to life.

Well done Year 6!

W/C 17th November 2025

Year 6 have had a busy and productive week! Our children have been working incredibly hard during their assessment week, showing real determination, focus and resilience. I am so proud of the positive attitude they have shown towards their learning.

Alongside their assessments, the children have been enjoying their Geography topic on population. They have explored how and why populations change, compared different regions around the world and discussed the ways people adapt to life in places with very high or very low population densities.

Well done, Year 6 - keep up the great work!

W/C 6th October 2025

This week in Year 6 has been a fantastic one! The children have had great focus and determination this week during our SATs practice sessions – everyone gave their best effort and showed real perseverance.

On Thursday, we loved welcoming our adults into school for our 'Talk and Share' session, where the children proudly shared their books!

The children have put their map skills to the test in Geography, using compasses successfully to explore directions and navigation. Well done Year 6, what a brilliant week you have had!

W/C 22nd September 2025

Year 6 have been working hard and impressing us with their enthusiasm this week! In Maths, we have been tackling bar models, using them to solve problems and show our thinking clearly. In English, our creative writing has taken off as we focused on crafting our own sentences using personification. The children have shown great imagination and brought their characters and objects to life.

We have had fun exploring natural selection and evolution this week using the iPads! The children carried out their own research, asking thoughtful questions and finding fascinating facts to share in the next lesson.

A brilliant week of learning – well done, Year 6!

W/C 15th September 2025

Year 6 have had an amazing first two weeks back to school! Everyone has settled in brilliantly and shown just how ready they are for their final year at primary school. In English, we've been having fun with raps – even writing our own all about an Acorn's first day in school! In Maths, we've been getting stuck into place value and showing off some fantastic number skills.

We've also had the excitement of voting for our new Head Boy, Head Girl and their deputies, and we've welcomed our ambassadors and house captains too. The children have taken on these roles with real pride and responsibility. Well done to all of those who prepared and delivered a speech!

It has been a fantastic start, and we cannot wait to see what the rest of the year brings for you all – well done Oak class!
