Oak Class (Year 6)

Year 6 have worked incredibly hard in Maths this week, focusing on calculating the area of triangles in their morning lessons and developing their understanding of percentages in the afternoons. The children have shown great determination when tackling some tricky concepts.
As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, we have also been exploring the importance of kindness, discussing how random acts of kindness can positively impact both ourselves and others. It has been lovely to see the children putting this into practice and supporting one another throughout the week.

Year 6 had a fantastic time creating and running their own maths stalls for NSPCC Number Day on Friday, transforming the hall into a lively Maths Carnival! The children worked brilliantly as a team, using their maths skills to plan, organise and present engaging activities for the rest of the school, while raising money for a great cause. Well done Year 6, great job!

Year 6 have had a fantastic week, showing great enthusiasm in PE during their street dancing sessions as part of our Dance Through the Decades topic. In English, the children have been developing and refining their Anne Frank–inspired writing, focusing carefully on thought, emotion and reflection to deepen their work. In Maths, they have continued to build confidence with decimals and division, approaching their learning with maturity and focus.

Year 6 have been working hard in Maths this week, focusing on long multiplication during their morning sessions and developing their understanding of decimals in the afternoon. In English, the children have been building their emotive writing skills in preparation for writing a diary entry in the style of Anne Frank, carefully exploring thoughts and feelings through language. In PE, the children had great fun learning and performing 1970s disco-style dance moves, developing both rhythm and confidence!

Year 6 have worked hard in Maths this week, focusing on fractions with an emphasis on tackling multistep problems. It was lovely to see many children attending the morning booster sessions and starting their day with such a positive attitude - well done! In English, the children have been writing formal letters linked to our World War II topic, taking on the role of government officials explaining the urgent need for evacuation. The children also had great fun in PE as they began exploring dance through the decades, enthusiastically learning some Rock 'n' Roll moves!
A reminder that all children should be keeping up to date with their online learning at home. Thank you!

Happy New Year! Year 6 have returned from the Christmas break with a positive attitude for the term ahead. They have begun their World War II topic in History, which has been linked to our English through informal letter writing from the viewpoint of evacuees. In Maths, the focus has been on developing understanding and fluency with fractions.
We look forward to welcoming the children back to next week's booster sessions!

We have had a very busy and enjoyable week in school. In English, the children have been focusing on explanation texts, using their creativity to explore the title, How the School Runs at Night When the Teachers Go Home. In our maths sessions we have been revising our knowledge of fractions.
The whole school enjoyed a fantastic trip to the pantomime, which was a real highlight of the week! As well as this, Year 6 took part in an informative workshop led by the local police, where they learnt all about online safety and staying safe within the community.
Great job Year 6, one more week to go!

This week, Year 6 have been buzzing with excitement as they prepare to perform at the Rayleigh Lights Switch-On Event. The children have been practising their songs with great enthusiasm and their hard work is shining through.
In addition to this, the children have continued to enjoy their weekly swimming sessions, showing growing confidence and skill in the water.
In English this week, the children have been captivated by our work on The Highwayman. They have been eagerly crafting their own pieces of creative writing inspired by the poem, using vivid description and powerful imagery to bring their ideas to life.

Year 6 have had a busy and productive week! Our children have been working incredibly hard during their assessment week, showing real determination, focus and resilience. I am so proud of the positive attitude they have shown towards their learning.
Alongside their assessments, the children have been enjoying their Geography topic on population. They have explored how and why populations change, compared different regions around the world and discussed the ways people adapt to life in places with very high or very low population densities.
Well done, Year 6 - keep up the great work!

This week in Year 6 has been a fantastic one! The children have had great focus and determination this week during our SATs practice sessions – everyone gave their best effort and showed real perseverance.
On Thursday, we loved welcoming our adults into school for our 'Talk and Share' session, where the children proudly shared their books!
The children have put their map skills to the test in Geography, using compasses successfully to explore directions and navigation. Well done Year 6, what a brilliant week you have had!

Year 6 have been working hard and impressing us with their enthusiasm this week! In Maths, we have been tackling bar models, using them to solve problems and show our thinking clearly. In English, our creative writing has taken off as we focused on crafting our own sentences using personification. The children have shown great imagination and brought their characters and objects to life.
We have had fun exploring natural selection and evolution this week using the iPads! The children carried out their own research, asking thoughtful questions and finding fascinating facts to share in the next lesson.
A brilliant week of learning – well done, Year 6!

Year 6 have had an amazing first two weeks back to school! Everyone has settled in brilliantly and shown just how ready they are for their final year at primary school. In English, we've been having fun with raps – even writing our own all about an Acorn's first day in school! In Maths, we've been getting stuck into place value and showing off some fantastic number skills.
We've also had the excitement of voting for our new Head Boy, Head Girl and their deputies, and we've welcomed our ambassadors and house captains too. The children have taken on these roles with real pride and responsibility. Well done to all of those who prepared and delivered a speech!
It has been a fantastic start, and we cannot wait to see what the rest of the year brings for you all – well done Oak class!
