Mobile phones
At Wyburns Primary School, we understand that some pupils in Years 5 and 6 may walk to and from school independently and may therefore need to bring a mobile phone for safety reasons.
Pupils in Years 5 and 6 are permitted to bring a mobile phone to school only if they walk home independently. However, to ensure the safety of all pupils and minimise distractions to learning, the following rules apply:
-
Phones must be switched off before pupils enter the school site.
-
Phones must remain switched off throughout the school day.
-
Phones must not be used anywhere on the school site.
-
Phones must not be kept in pupils’ bags during the school day.
-
Phones may only be switched on again once pupils leave the school site via the blue gate at the end of the car park.
These rules help us maintain a safe learning environment and ensure that the school day remains focused on teaching and learning.
Supporting Children to Use Technology Safely
Technology is an important part of children’s lives, and learning to use it safely is essential. We encourage parents and carers to talk with their children about safe and responsible phone use.
We would like to share helpful guidance from the NSPCC on children, mobile phones and staying safe online. This guidance includes practical advice on managing screen time, setting parental controls and supporting children to use technology safely.
Please take a moment to read the guidance here:

Clear guidance and open conversations at home can make a big difference in helping children stay safe
