Harvest 18.10.24

This Week In Class 6!

Maths

In Maths this week, the children have been introduced to Fractions. We have been exploring equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions by finding common factors.

English

In English, we have been writing our own instructions. We looked at the features of an instruction text and located them in given examples. We then added a spooky theme to our writing by designing a method to trap a Halloween creature (e.g. a vampire) and wrote a set of instructions to capture this creature.

Foundations

In PE, the children have continued our gymnastics topic and have been practicing "linking in" movements in preparation for creating their own performance sequences next week. In History, we have learned about the Battle of Hastings in 1066, which signalled the end of the Anglo-Saxon and Viking era. We have also designed our Viking Longboats ready to begin building them next week. Thank you so much for the cardboard donations for these! In PSHE, we have discussed communication and negotiation, learning strategies to handle conflict in a healthy way. In Geography, we have learned about the lines of longitude and latitude on the Earth and the children have located the Arctic circle, the Antarctic circle, the Equator, the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. We have also begun to investigate and discuss time zones.

Harvest!

Thank you for all your food donations to Hopeworx this Harvest time!

During our Harvest assembly this week, the Year 6 children performed their own Harvest poems, written earlier in the term.
