Every child has brilliance inside them. Our job is to dig it out and give it to the world!

Class 5

Thank you for an amazing year class 5 - you have been brilliant! I am so proud of you all and what you have accomplished.

I will miss you all very much next year but I know you are all going to do fantastically with Miss Williams in year 6!

It has been a pleasure to teach you. It's not only you that have learnt from me but I have also learnt from you.

I feel very lucky to have been part of this class and part of Wyburns school. It's been a super year for us all!

Thank you all for your wonderful cards and gifts. I have been so spoilt!

Best wishes and good luck in all you do.

Paralympics events at Deanes School

Busy creating our model volcanoes

Super proud of class 5 this week. It's been jam-packed, very hot and there has been lots to do but they have worked very hard and showed just how brilliant they are!

Our DT day on Monday was lots of fun and the class produced some wonderful work.

Well done for great behaviour at the Paralympics event at Deanes School!

Sports day was a big success and the children were fantastic! Well done!

I am seeing the children really move on in their swimming lessons which is great to see.

Class 5 won the certificate for attendance for last week, another reason to celebrate!

Keep up the hard work!!

Well done to all who took part in the District Sports today! You were bursting with brilliance!!

Just a reminder that Monday 22nd we are having a DT day!

We will be making our own model volcanoes.

It would be great if children could bring in an old, large shirt to protect their school uniforms and any materials such as cardboard boxes, plastic bottles and newspapers.

Tuesday afternoon we are going on our trip to Deanes school to take part in Paralympics events, which should be great fun! All children need to have written permission to come along and did have letters to be filled in and sent back. However a signed note in partnership books will also be fine if this cannot be located.

Sports day is on Thursday next week. Class 5 should all have made a note in their partnership books of which team they are in. Children should wear a t-shirt of their teams colour.

Making our way through the lasers and handling the radioactive cannisters

More fun activities we did on our Sci-Fi day!

Programming Robots for our Sci-Fi day!

We have had a very busy and exciting week back at school.

Tuesday, we were lucky enough to be visited by Mr Eagling and to learn all about Science Fiction. This meant doing lots of cool activities, from programming robots to making our way through a laser maze! We will be doing lots of work on the genre of Sci-Fi in our lessons for the next few weeks.

Thursday, we went on a school trip to Writtle College farming day which was lots of fun and also taught us lots of new facts! We had such lovely weather too which made it even better.

Have a wonderful half term. Enjoy yourselves and get plenty of rest.

Remember 1st June is an non pupil day!

We will see you 2nd June, when we have a fun filled day in store for you.

Our farming trip is on the Thursday of that week too! Lots of fun learning will be going on!

Take care of yourselves.

Miss Thoupos and Mr Baker

We planned Andy's party in maths, created our own toys, made parachutes for army men and went on a clue hunt! Wyburns at the movies has been fab!

Class 5 worked so well with KS1 during Maths at the movies!!

Our new display on disasters!

Another fab week in class 5. We have produced some great work and taken part in some great activities.

Well done to the boys who played football on Friday after school - you did brilliant!!

The class had a great time this week reading with class 1 and were very grown up and kind to the little ones.

We had a fun Big Write today in which we went to Wyburns Café and got to eat food and drink and then write a review on how we felt about it. Miss Thoupos is looking forward to reading the reviews!

It would be great if anybody has any old, unwanted shirts that the children can use for Art and DT. If so please could the children bring them in to school for the class to use. Thank you :-)
A quick reminder about PE Kits. Children should all be wearing blue or black sports shorts with a  yellow polo shirt for PE now :-) Thank you!

Just a reminder to keep those brains working over the weekend. Sumdog is now available as a free android app for  Kindle Fire HD6, Nexus 7 2013 and Hudl 2.

For those who want to attend... The new rescheduled date for 'I’m A Parent Get Me Out Of Here!' workshop on Wednesday 25th March.

We had a great afternoon doing science work about light! We worked with EYFS and were very sensible! We talked about the work we did in assembly.

Class 5 in our Comic Relief outfits and pulling silly faces!

Can you guess which book we have designed our class box for world book day on?

Very proud of the class for working so well with their early years reading buddies for World Book Day!

Chris and Sue

As some of you may know, Chris and Sue are a much loved Christian couple who have been hosting assemblies for over 25 years!

Their passion and love of life is infectious; with exciting songs and clear messages it is no wonder the children enjoy their assemblies.

Unfortunately, Chris and Sue are retiring. As a thank you Wyburns will be composing a Good Luck book, where each class will be writing messages to say ‘Thank You’. The couple have been hosting assemblies for many years, with many parents remembering them when they were in school. If you would like to contribute to our Wyburns Book please pass messages to your class teacher no later than Tuesday 10th March.

Many Thanks

Miss Beasley

We have seen some fantastic pieces of writing produced from the whole school Big Write last week.

Testing our ability to weigh material and read scales in maths

Another half term's gone by, very quickly! We have been very busy in class 5 working on our Kings and Queens topic, investigating Anglo Saxon Kings and writing poetry on the subject. We will be moving on to looking at the changes in Monarchs after half term.

Just a reminder that children should have an indoor PE kit in school at all times.

Hoping you all have a lovely break and we look forward to seeing you again on Tuesday 24th February :-)

Well done to all those who took part in the hockey at King Edmunds School on Wednesday afternoon!

During Internet Safety Day we did a good deed for the day and gave our friends help on the computers

Well done to Daniel who won these fantastic trophies for a karate competition on Sunday!

Well done to all the children who took part in the athletics at Fitz on Tuesday! It was a great day!

Well done to all of the choir, not only for what I hear was a fab performance at the O2 but also for coming into school and working hard the next day after a very late night. Superstars!

Well done also to those who took part in the indoor athletics and the mountain biking! It is wonderful to see you positively representing Wyburns school!

As we investigted fractions this week in maths, we played a game with chocolate, working out the fraction we would get if we sat in a certain place. Then we got to eat the chocolate!

The start of our new display

We are getting into the swing of things now. We are well into investigating Anglo Saxons, where they came from, how they lived and what they left behind. We've been archaeologists and we've investigated artefacts from Anglo-Saxon times using what we have learnt so far to interpret what these artefacts could be.

Our fantastic Haiku poems and Cinquains are now up on display in the classroom and they are fabulous! The display is yet to be finished with more of our super work on our topic this term.

In maths this week we have looked at square numbers, cubed numbers and long multiplication. It's been tricky but it is very rewarding when you finally understand.

In literacy we have moved on to looking at stories from other cultures. This week we concentrated on the story 'Ali-Baba and the Forty Thieves.' We wrote letters from different characters points of view and used emotive language to show how the characters might be feeling. We have also done some drama work on the story, recreating scenes in small groups and performing them to the class. We had to focus on using body language and facial expression to portray characters feelings. Next week we are moving on to looking at the story of 'Beowulf' from Anglo Saxon times.

We have studied the life cycle of plants in our Science lessons. We matched the parts of the plant to the descriptions of what they do, labelled parts of a plant identifying the male and female parts and we discussed how pollen is transferred from one part to another. We also looked at the differences between flowering plants and trees such as conifers.

We've looked some more at different aspects of growing up in PSHE lessons and have watched a video about a girl who gets a spot and doesn't want to leave the house. We know that this is a normal thing to happen as we grow up because of our hormones changing in our bodies. We aren't going to be so silly and stay inside because of a silly spot. We gave each other advice on our worries about growing up and spoke about how we would support each other.

This week was a big write and this time we wrote about the end of the world. Miss Thoupos is excited to read through our work, which she knows will be amazing!

Have a lovely weekend :-)
