Sports at Wyburns

PE is a highly valued area of the curriculum and one that is continually developing and improving. We have recently been awarded the School Games Silver kitemark and the Youth Sports Trust’s Gold Quality Mark award and continue to strive toward the Platinum Mark.

Children have access to at least 2 hours of PE, within curriculum time, and there are clubs for all age groups running from Monday to Friday after school. Many opportunities are provided to receive specialist sports coaching. Children in Key Stage 2 also have swimming lessons at a nearby pool.

We have a varied and exciting range of clubs after school for all age ranges. These include cheerleading, football, netball, tennis, dodgeball, cricket, dance, gymnastics and basketball. Clubs are run by teachers, or carefully chosen outside providers like Elite sports coaching and Jack of All Sports.

We have a have had a link with Southend United for more than 20 years this has meant that we are first choice to access schemes. In addition, we have strong links to Southend Marine Activities Centre, Rochford Archery Club, Garons Park Golf Club, Rayleigh Tennis club, Rayleigh Town Cricket Club, Rochford and District swimming club and Runnymede swimming club. These links give our children to pursue different sports further. We also have a strong link with the Deanes Schools through the School Sports Partnership scheme.

Our participation in the School Sports partnership enables us to build up valuable contacts and a variety of opportunities.

Entry into inter-school competitions such as sportshall athletics, mini-tennis, tri-golf, archery, football, mountain biking, basketball, cross country, rounders, and festivals such as the winter, summer games and tennis for Key Stage 1 children.  We try and aim to enter as many as possible to give all children a chance to represent the school.   See the link below to the CPRSSP website for all the details you need for the competitions that we are entering this year.

We also have a strong link with the Essex FA where our children get a chance to take part in level 3 football Cup competitions

As well as the above, we take part in inter-school competitions with local schools through our participation in football and netball leagues and the District Sports event held annually at Garons’ Park sports centre.
