  • SEND- Short Breaks Survey

    Thu 24 Sep 2020

Essex County Council is developing a new Commissioning Strategy for Services for Children and Young People with Disabilities. This involves our commissioners and research team deepening their understanding of the diverse range of needs of the children and young people and identifying and improving the support and opportunities in place to meet those needs.

Our first job is to look at the short breaks offer known as “clubs and activities” and “light touch care”. These are the opportunities that provide leisure time, informal education opportunities. This might include dance, sports, arts and life skills such as cooking.

The contracts for these clubs and activities expire in September 2021. To help us put the right things in place for after September 2021 we want to hear what works best for children, young people and families, for example what you enjoy doing and things you would like to achieve by attending these opportunities.

The information you provide will help us start to design the new offer with you from now until the new services are in place.

To complete the survey please follow this link https://consultations.essex.gov.uk/commissioning-delivery/f70bdfb5

If anyone has any questions or would require the survey in another format please email CYPengagement@essex.gov.uk

We are looking to hear from as many families as possible so please do feel free to share this link with anyone within your network

The survey has opened today and will close on the 25th of October

    Kind regards

  • Virtual Tour of Essex Police Museum

    Tue 22 Sep 2020

Join Essex Police live on Facebook at 5pm on Thursday 24 September for a virtual tour of Essex Police Museum. This will be a great learning experience for your kids!

Have you ever wondered how our officers used to communicate with each other back in 1840? Or how technology used at crime scenes has evolved since the Moat Farm Murder in 1903?

As part of Essex 2020, the county’s biggest public celebration of science, technology and creativity, Essex Police will be telling you all about their 180 years of history and the answers of the untold past.

During the virtual tour, you’ll be able to ask the team questions about the museum and they’ll hope to answer as many as they can.

The virtual museum tour will also be uploaded onto the Essex Police YouTube channel after the live stream so those who can’t tune in on Thursday at 5pm can instead watch the tour when is best for them.

The team are excited to see you and your kids there for a night at the museum!

    Mon 07 Sep 2020

Education settings have been able to return to full-time opening for all students this term, due in large to a reduction in COVID-19 cases in the community. This reduction is thanks to the sacrifices every member of the community made earlier this year, by staying at home, not seeing friends and relatives in person, and maintaining social distancing measures. However, as restrictions have been eased and schools and colleges are now returning full time, we must all remain alert.

Schools and colleges have measures in place for pupils attending in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19. They are asking pupils to wash their hands more regularly, restricting time spent in communal areas and, importantly, keeping pupils in class or year group-sized bubbles. This limits the number of people each pupil and staff member comes into contact with in their setting.

When travelling to and from settings, we know groups of pupils and parents must arrive at the same time. Schools have put measures in place to aid the safe entry and exit of pupils. These may include queueing systems, one way systems  or monitors to oversee arrivals and departures. It is crucial that pupils and parents maintain a two metre distance from others at the school gate. The whole school population, whether on school grounds or off it, must remain vigilant and observe social distancing measures. It is vital we all play our part if we’re to avoid a spike in the community and the reintroduction of lockdown measures.

I thank you for your support.

    Dr Mike Gogarty

Director of Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities, Essex County Council.
