Every child has brilliance inside them. Our job is to dig it out and give it to the world!

Young Carers

Wyburns Primary School is committed to develop provision for Young Carers and their families.

We will capture the commitment by widening our provision, building on the needs of the young people and better meet young carers’ needs by reviewing Wyburns Primary School’s provision for young carers with a view to ultimately achieving best practice.

How we will achieve this:

  • The whole school is committed to meeting the needs of Young Carers so that they can attend and enjoy school in the same way as other pupils and achieve their potential.
  • Appointing a designated Young Carers’ School Lead with responsibility for young carers and their families.
  • The school only shares information with professionals and agencies on a need to know basis in order to support pupils and their families.
  • Wyburns Primary School will actively seek feedback and ideas from Young Carers and their families to shape and improve support.
  • The school has an effective referral system and strong partnership in place with relevant external agencies, including referral to Young Carer agencies providing key workers who will work with young carers and families.

We will strive to achieve best practice for students and families in our school in order to provide them with the best chance of success in their future.

If you think your child could be a Young Carer, email our Young Carer Lead, Miss Hasson, through our office email - admin@wyburns.org

More information...

A young carer is a young person aged 5 – 16 who looks after someone who couldn’t manage without their help. This could mean looking after a parent, brother or sister, grandparent or family friend who has a disability, long term illness, or drug and alcohol related issues.

As many as one in 12 pupils could be a young carer, and unless the school is advised about a pupil’s home circumstances, young carers risk first being identified by negative aspects of their behaviour or work. Some young carers worry about bullying and may be tired, worried, find it difficult to concentrate and have limited time for friendships and activities after school. If this is the case, we can help.

Did you know Miss Hasson, Mrs Clark and Mrs Manning can provide extra help for young carers? By offering extra help with home learning, flexibility around calling home, advice about how to get your child into school where transport may be an issue, an adult to talk to and respite.

Wyburns Primary School can also provide advice on benefits, local support groups and more.

Do you think you have a Young Carer in your household? If so, fill in the Google Form or speak to our Young Carer Lead, Miss Hasson. You can do so by calling the main office on 01269 770914 or emailing admin@wyburs.org
