Every child has brilliance inside them. Our job is to dig it out and give it to the world!

Maths

The children will explore numbers and what we use them for. Through fun activities and singing songs, the children will become confident to use numbers and manipulate them in order to solve simple addition and subtraction problems. Maths is all around us and the children learn to use mathematical language, such as the language of shape and size, through play and exploration.

ELG 11            Numbers

Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

ELG 12            Shape Space and Measures

Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.
