Physical Education at Wyburns

PE is a highly valued and continually evolving part of our curriculum. We are proud to have achieved the School Games Silver Kitemark and the Youth Sport Trust Gold Quality Mark, and we continue to strive towards the prestigious Platinum Award.

All children receive a minimum of two hours of PE each week as part of the curriculum. In addition, we offer a wide variety of after-school clubs, running Monday to Friday, catering to all age groups. Children benefit from regular opportunities to work with specialist sports coaches, enhancing their skills and experiences. Our Key Stage 2 pupils also attend swimming lessons at a local pool as part of their PE provision.

We’re proud to offer a broad and exciting range of after-school clubs, which include:

  • Cheerleading

  • Football

  • Netball

  • Tennis

  • Dodgeball

  • Cricket

  • Dance

  • Gymnastics

  • Basketball

These clubs are led by our dedicated teaching staff and trusted external providers, including Elite Sports Coaching and Jack of All Sports.

We have had a long-standing relationship with Southend United, spanning over 20 years, which gives our pupils first access to exclusive programmes. In addition, we enjoy strong partnerships with:

  • Garons Park Golf Club

  • Rayleigh Tennis Club

  • Rayleigh Town Cricket Club

  • Rochford & District Swimming Club

  • Clements Hall

  • Deanes SSP

  • Jack of All Sports

These valuable connections allow our children to explore and pursue a wide range of sports beyond the school grounds. We also work closely with The Deanes School through the School Sports Partnership, which provides even more sporting opportunities and professional links.

Our pupils regularly take part in inter-school competitions, including:

  • Sportshall Athletics

  • Mini-Tennis

  • Tri-Golf

  • Archery

  • Football

  • Mountain Biking

  • Basketball

  • Cross Country

  • Rounders
As well as seasonal sports festivals for younger children, such as the Winter and Summer Games and KS1 Tennis.

Through our involvement in the Castle Point and Rochford School Sports Partnership (CPRSSP), we aim to enter as many competitions as possible, giving every child the opportunity to represent the school. [See the link below for details of this year’s events.]

We also have a strong link with the Essex FA, giving our pupils the chance to take part in Level 3 football cup competitions.

Finally, we compete locally in football and netball leagues, and proudly participate in the annual District Sports event at Garons Park Sports Centre-a highlight of our sporting calendar.
